Wedding favour ideas for men...
Bridal magazines and wedding blogs are choc-full of ideas for favours for the ladies attending your Big Day, but what about the gents? Mr R offers some pointers on catering for the males at your wedding reception.
As the American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once intoned, “The only gift is a portion of thyself”. When it comes to choosing the perfect wedding favour this is precisely the sentiment one needs to keep in mind.
First and foremost, choose a wedding favour that reflects you as a couple or shows that you have put thought into what makes your gentlemen guests tick.
When thinking about wedding favour ideas for men, here are some points to consider:
- Just because he’s a chap doesn’t mean he doesn’t like being surprised. Some of the most successful favours we have seen at weddings are those that have taken the gentleman guest aback. Simple trinkets to invoke traditional boyhood memories, such as a wooden yo-yo, provide more pleasure than one would imagine.
- Surprising in a wedding setting, however, should not mean unnecessarily shocking, gaudy or surreal. Think, would this evoke a warm chuckle from the recipient or would it likely cause their jaw to drop to the floor? Avoid the latter.
- Do not be afraid to pick favours with bold colours that are striking, yet still complement your table and wedding reception themes. Guests are unlikely to remove favours from the table so be careful that your chosen wedding favours, whether for male or female guests, will look wonderful during the course of the entire reception.
- Forget the cliches about men. Long gone are the days of the whisky miniature as a wedding table favour for the chaps; not every gentleman is defined by a love of alcoholic beverages, association football and Italian automobiles. Try something a little different ; most chaps certainly would not expect a single rose, a personalised message on a chalkboard or a short story.
- Keep it elegant. This is your wedding after all.
Ultimately, one simply feels satisfied knowing that your male guests reflect fondly on your little wedding gift and go away feeling they have taken, as Emerson said, a little piece of you.
Bon chance
